He was born on June 9, 1925 in Whitesboro, son of the late Anthony and Pauline Galluccio Stewart. He attended school in Rome. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1942 to 1944 serving in the Pacific Theater, in particular the Guadalcanal. James married Mary D. Rocco on April 13, 1955, in Baltimore, MD. He worked for Griffiss Air Force Base and then started the Stewart Luncheonette in Whitesboro and later in Yorkville.
James was a member of the DAV and the American Legion. In his free time he enjoyed collecting antiques and was the first to arrive at the neighborhood sale! In addition, he had a great love for his pets, especially his dog Zoey. On Sundays you would frequently find James surrounded by his many family members enjoying another one of his passions, his wife's fine Italian cooking.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary of Yorkville; his children, Maria Stewart, of Myrtle Beach; Russell Stewart and his wife, Atorrie of Deansboro; Mark Stewart and his wife, Lisa of Marcy; Ronald Stewart and his wife, Lynne of New York Mills; Paula Ukena and her husband, Jeremy of Utica; Dominick Stewart, of Yorkville; Sandra Stewart, of Las Vegas; Darleen Wohlfril of Las Vegas; Faith Maut of Riverside, CA; a brother, Fred Stewart and his wife, Raffie of Riverside, CA; 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sons, Gary A. Stewart and James A. Stewart, Jr. and his brothers and sisters, Jeannette, Richard, Eugene, Pauline "Carm" and Thomas.
