Relatives and friends of Mrs. Ezra Betz, were saddened by her passing early Friday morning, May 12th. She had submitted to a serious operation at the Harris Hospital on Thursday, and the operation revealed what had been feared. Mrs. Betz was spared much suffering by being taken within a short time.
Mrs. Betz, a daughter of George and Katherine, nee Bilhorn Pohl, was born in Clarion Township, Oct. 14, 1880. At Holy Baptism she received the name of Anne Margaret Charlotte. She was confirmed by Pastor Carl Proehl at St. John's Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday, April 7, 1895. She remained at home until her marriage to Mr. Ezra Betz on June 14, 1905. This union proved to be an especially happy one and was blessed with five children of whom Katherine Barbara died Sept. 18, 1921, at the age of nine years.
Mrs. Betz was an efficient and faithful wife and mother. Her husband and her children will ever bear her in grateful memory. Many were her friends who could always count on her cheerful words and kind acts. She remained to the last a communicant member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in the work of the Lutheran Ladies aid. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and that organization had charge of the service at the grave.
She was not spared sorrow on this earth. Though complaining little, those nearest to her realized that her health declined rapidly.
Mrs. Betz is deeply mourned by her husband, Mr. Ezra Betz, by three sons and a daughter; Carl, Gabriel, Gilbert and Charlotte Betz, and three brothers and one sister, Messrs. Fred, Gabriel and K.W. Pohl, and Miss Elizabeth Pohl, as well as by a host of other relatives and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Mrs. Webster Setchell and Mrs. Carl Schuetz, and two brothers, Mr. Henry Pohl and Little Louis. She had reached the age of 58 years, 6 months and 23 days at the time of her demise.
Funeral services were conducted at two p.m. Sunday, May 14th from their home east of Mendota. Rev. A.W. Engelbrecht took charge of the services. Pallbearers were: Gus Truckenbrod, Clifford Setchell, D.D. Dewey, Ira P. Morehouse, Andrew Herbert and Emanuel Richert. Miss Clara Schuetz and Mrs. Gladys Sauer sang at the funeral service. Interment was made at Restland.
