There is a Hemphill Cemetery in Fall Creek Falls State Park. I don't know what town that is in, but it is in Bledsoe County at Bradens Knob. The cemetery is inside Fall Creek Falls State Park, near the fire tower, just off the Fire Tower Road. It is a small cemetery with just seven people in it. It has a wrought iron fence around it. Samuel Corydon Hemphill fought on the side of the Union during the Civil War and was wounded at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. He was also the Post Master at Braden's Knob, briefly. Before that, when he lived in Mecosta County, Michigan, he served as Justice of the Peace.
He was also one of the school inspectors there.
Samuel and his sons owned a lot of timberland in Tennessee and Mississippi. He had a saw mill at Braden's Knob.
Samuel had two wives: 1) Melissa Hukill, who he married on 19 Mar 1844 in Logan County, Ohio; and 2) Mary Doney, who he married on 6 Aug 1871 in Mecosta County, Michigan. Both ladies had been married once, before they married Samuel, and he helped them raise children by the previous husbands. He also had children of his own by both wives. Melissa had been married to William White and Mary had been married to Mr. Aldrich.
Samuel was the son of John Lewis Hemphill and Eleanor (Rittenhouse) Hemphill.
At right, above, is a building believed by some to be the Old Liberty School House, where Samuel's second family of children would have attended school.
