"James Isaac Decker
James Isaac, son of Elisha G. and Catherine Ann Decker, was born at Cambridge, Illinois, May 10, 1853. In 1856 the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. As a lad of 13 he went from home to care for himself. In the spring of 1871 he made his way to Mound City, Missouri where he became acquainted with Martha Priscilla Everett and on January 14, 1873 they were united in marriage.
To this union nine children were born: four of whom, Bertha L., Earnest O., Minnie Ann Barnes and Delaware T. preceded their father in death.
In 1881 he brought his family to Nebraska, settling at Table Rock. Four years later he emigrated to Kansas and homsteaded near Oberlin where the family resided until 1920, when he returned to Nebraska, taking up residence at Wauneta. On July 18, 1923 Mrs. Decker departed this life.
On March 10, 1928 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Stevens and the couple have continued residence in Wauneta. Here on November 8, 1938 at 12 pm, Mr. Decker passes away at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 25 days. In his last illness his wife and children were at his bedside and all was done that loving hands can do.
Mr. Decker has spent his life as a stockman, rancher and general farmer. Not satisfied with the learning he was able to get in childhood, he purchased books and pursued studies in practical branches after he was a grown man. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Addie Thomas of Wauneta, Mrs. Mary E. Cochran of McCook; three sons, Ira F.,Chester G., and Walter E. of Wauneta; forty five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers; Lon Decker of Oberlin Kansas and Joe B. Decker of Woodenville, Washington and may other relatives and friends.
Services were held November 11 from the Wauneta Methodist Church and were conducted by Rev. Milo Rose, pastor of the church. Internment was in Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta."
