Son of Maj Thomas Jones Bowen (1788-1854) and Nancy Yarborough Bowen (1800-1885); brother to Andrew Jackson Bowen and Cpt Jonathan J Bowen

Caleb Bowen's first wife was Thirza Blackwell Bowen. Thirza is buried in a private cemetery in Douglasville. She died on November 7, 1862. They had two children - Helen and Margaret. Thirza and Caleb were married on April 6, 1848.

1st Lieutenant September 25, 1861. Elected Captain August 5, 1863. Wounded at Chickamauga, Ga. September 19, 1863; Atlanta, Ga. July 22, 1864. Captured at Nashville, Tenn. December 16, 1864. Released at Johnson's Island, Ohio. June 16, 1865.

Married Melissa A H Morse on 17 Nov 1867.

Capt. of Co. F, later C, 30th GA CSA, the "Campbell County Sharpshooters". He was the first treasurer of Douglas Co. in 1870, state representative 1876, and Douglasville Postmaster 1893.
