Son of Capt. Benjamin Hopkins 1782-1847 & Catharine Low, who moved to Canada in 1831 and then to Eastmanville, Ottawa Co., MI in 1837.
Grandson of Silas Hopkins 1741-1818 & Mary Swayze 1743-1801.

Benjamin & Catharine (Low) Hopkins had 6 sons & 3 daughters:
Silas C., Hannibal Allen, John Vincent, (Benjamin) Franklin, Mordecai Lowe, and Vincent b. Jan. 14, 1809 d. Feb. 1, 1809.
Marcia Catharine b. Mar. 1, 1812 NY was a school teacher in Eastmanville and Spring Lake, MI.
Cornelia A. b. Jan. 24, 1815 NY m. Rev. William C. Comfort.
Bridget Ann b. Apr. 12, 1810 NY m. Rev. Lemoyne Seth Smith.

Hannibal Allen Hopkins was named for Capt. Hannibal M. Allen, son of Col. Ethan Allen, leader of the Green Mountain Boys of VT and hero of the taking of Fort Ticonderoga during the Revolutionary War. Capt. Hannibal M. Allen married in 1808 Agnes Bodine Low, Catharine (Low) Hopkins's sister. They were the daughters of Cornelius Low (Lowe), a Revolutionary War soldier who died during the War of 1812 at the age of 62.

Hannibal was in the lumber business and owned two large saw mills.

On July 17, 1851 Hannibal Allen Hopkins married Emma Ann Comfort, d/o Thomas J. Comfort. They lived in Spring Lake, Ottawa Co., MI.
