Bernice (pronounced Bur-ness) Beam was the son of John Mark Beam and Nancy Pearl Key, the husband of Paula White, and the father of Shirley Joyce Beam. He was born and lived his entire life in the Rock Springs community of Cleburne County, Ala (He did live and work in Camp Hill, Al for a very short time). He built the home where he lived his adult life with his own hands. The home is located on county road 51 next to the home of his parents. Bernice was a farmer and carpenter by trade. In the earlier years he farmed cotton, but after that became less profitable, he raised chickens in two chicken houses that he built himself. Over the years, Bernice worked off-and-on as a carpenter helping to build many houses. He was an accomplished cabinet maker and I remember that he once built a boat. Bernice was a good Christian, husband and father who was well know for his honesty and willingness to help others.
