Mrs. Sarah Belcher Cardwell
Mrs. Sarah Belcher Cardwell, widow of Gilbert Cardwell died early Thursday morning at the home of her son, Thomas Belcher, 812 Cooper Street, aged 77 years, following a weeks illness due to pneumonia. She was taken ill last Tuesday morning.
She is survived by four sond and one daughter. George Belcher of Belleville, Ont., Joseph W., Thomas and John E. Belcher of this City, Mrs. Catherine Baker of Huntington Ind., and also 16 grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Her husband died 15 years ago. She had been a resident of this city for the past 28 years and for the past ten years she had made her home with her son. She was twice married, her first husband being Joseph Belcher. The marriage took place in England, where she was born and had lived previous to her marriage.
The funeral services will be held from the sons home, 412 Cooper Street, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W. P. Moody pastor of Sepp Street Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be made in North Watertown Cemetery.
She left Liverpool, England on May 26, 1870 and arrived in the Port of Quebec, Canada on June 6, 1870 with her husband Joseph Belcher and their children: George, Joseph, Thomas, and Catherine.
She went to Ontario, Canada from there.
She then moved from Onatario, Canada to Watertown New York in 1889, she was listed as married, but her husband was, I believe, already passed away.
