OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - June 24, 1892

James Barrington was born at Piqua, O., September 5, 1845 and died Tuesday afternoon June 21, 1892. Funeral took place Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Service at his late residence on North Spring Street. Rev. C.E. Morgan assisted by Rev. A.W. Lamport officiating. #Burial in Falls Cemetery.

Deceased was well known in Wabash and vicinity, and his happy disposition and even temperment made him a general favorite among his acquaintances. He was a soldier in the late war, being among the first to answer the call for troops at the breaking out of the rebellion. Enlisting on the 17th day of April, 1861 in Company E, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, he served during the first three months' service, receiving his discharge one month after the expiration of his time of service. After being mustered out of the service, he moved to the state of Illinois and on the 1st of October 1861, he re-enlisted in Company K, 23rd Illinois Infantry, for a term of three years, and on the 30th day of October 1864 he was discharged on account of the expiration of his term of service, having served his country three years and five months.

On June 17, 1865 at St. Mary's Ohio, Mr. Barrington was married to Miss Mary Philips. He moved to Wabash a short time after his marriage and has since been a resident of this city. He was honored and respected by all who had the pleasure of his friendship. Several years ago, he embarked in the grocery business and afterward purchased the Monson Book store. He commanded a good salary as a clerk and was engaged in that capacity with several firms in the city during his residence here. He was a member of the James H. Emmet Post No. 6 G.A.R., and in the year 1885 was appointed Adjutant by Post Commander Woods.

He leaves, besides his wife and four children -- Mrs. Lizzie Conner, Robert, Laura and Nellie Barrington -- to mourn the loss of a kind-hearted, loving husband and father, a host of friends.
