Death: Mar. 5, 1966

Marshal Floyd Templeton was born May 11,1890 in Ballinger, Runnels County, Texas, the eighth of nine children born to Levi Young Templeton and Tilitha Rowena Bills.

Floyd's father, Levi Young Templeton, died when Floyd was four years old, and Floyd was raised thereafter in Coleman County by his mother Tilitha Bills and Jonathan J. Chamberland, who she married in 1898.

Floyd's first wife was Lena May Smith. They married about 1913, probably in either Brown or Fisher County, Texas.
Several of Floyd's close relatives had moved to Fisher County around 1910, as did Lena's family.
Floyd and Lena were there in 1914 where their only child, Doris Mae Templeton was born.
Lena died of epilepsy, at age 23, in 1915.
She is buried in Sylvester Cemetery, Fisher County, Texas.

About 1921, Floyd married Minnie Lois Penry, my grandmother, and they had eight children.
They were mostly all born and raised out around Coleman, Lamb, Hale, Floyd Counties.

Floyd liked farm work, picking cotton, and the freedom of moving around from place to place. He had a couple "regular" jobs at times, but didn't "like to be crowded" (tied down, restricted), as he phrased it.

Things were tough in the 1930's, and then they lost the farm they were leasingMelba Louis Templeton. They made a big change - moved to the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, at the encouragement of Minnie's brother, Frank Penry, in the fall of 1938.
Floyd eventually got into the Roofing business for many years till age caught up with him.
All five of his sons, most of his male grandchildren, sons in law, and many great-grandchildren have been in the Roofing Business, at least for some time in their lives, since then.

Floyd and Minnie are my paternal grandparents.
I have many memories of visiting their home on Adelaide Dr. in the South Oak Cliff area of Dallas, back in the 1960's.
There was always a bottle of pepper sauce and saccharin tablets on the kitchen table.
I often watched him hoeing weeds in his garden.

Floyd spent his last two months of life at the Country Estates Nursing Home in Lancaster, Dallas County, Texas, and died on March 5, 1966, at age 75.

His wife Minnie died in May,1982. They are both buried in File Mile Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
