Jacob Spindler was born on February 14, 1843 in Obersotern, Germany. He was the 4th of five known children born to Peter and Franziska Spindler.

Jacob spent the first 8 years of his life in Germany. His family immigrated to America, arriving in New York on September 23, 1851. After arriving here they made their way to Washington County, Ohio, settling on a farm in Fearing Township.

Jacob married Caroline Close, daughter of Jacob and Carolina (Pfaff) Close, on December 16, 1869 in Washington County, Ohio.

Together Jacob and Caroline had 12 children, four of which died at a young age: Peter (1871-1944), Edward (1872-), Adaline "Addie" (1874-1876), Mary (1877-1881), August Franklin (1879-1962), Elwood (1881-1952), Frances "Fannie" (1884-1964), Louis Grover (1885-1974), Alexander Jacob (1887-1944), Anna Caroline "Carrie" (1889-1949), Alma Julia (1892-1968), and Hilda Louisa (1895-1896).

Jacob died on December 6, 1929 at 12:30pm, due to "apoplexy". He was survived by 8 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, 4 children, his parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. A funeral was held 2 days after his death. He is buried at Lynch Cemetery in Washington County, Ohio.

Jacob was a lifelong farmer. The Spindler Family Farm is still owned by the family and is currently owned by David Spindler, Great Grandson of Jacob Spindler and the 4th generation to own the farm. The farm, commonly known as "August Spindler Farm", is known in the area for being the burial place of Revolutionary War Veteran Benoni Goldsmith.
