Sophia Ann "Sophie" Bowers was born on September 2, 1877 in Liberty Township, Washington County, Ohio. She was the second of ten children born to John Wesley and Rosanna (Love) Bowers.
She grew up in Liberty Township and attended the local school.
She married William Ellsworth Hamilton, son of Hiram Lewis and Arminda Ann (Parrish) Hamilton, on May 16, 1897 in Liberty Township.
Together Sophie and William had 2 children: Ernest Raymond (1898-1990) and Glennard Edwin "Glen" (1906-1953).
She was a tall and very thin woman who, in her later years, always wore a cotton print house dress and an apron. She kept an immaculate home and was a good cook. She also enjoyed gardening. She is remembered for being a very kind and loving person. She never once had anything bad to say about anyone.
She was a Protestant by faith and a housewife. She was a member of the Ladies of the Maccabees.
She passed away on July 15, 1968 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. She is buried at Valley Cemetery (East Lawn Memorial Park) in Reno, Washington County, Ohio.
At the time she was survived by one son, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, four brothers and three sisters.
