Birth: May 20, 1875
Death: Jun. 10, 1905, France

Lena Kearney Morton was born in Newport, Rhode Island, the fourth daughter of Levi P. Morton (1824-1920), US Vice President under Benjamin Harrison 1889-1893 and Governor of New York 1895-1897, and his wife, Anna Livingston Reade Street Morton. Lena was one of their five very accomplished daughters. Her sister Alice Morton Rutherfurd was the wife of Winthrop C Rutherfurd of New York City. They built the Rutherfurd Country Manor (their summer home) in Allamuchy, New Jersey known as Allamuchy Farms. Her sisters Mary and Helen continued the families humanitarian work.

Lena died while in Paris in June 1905. The New York Times published the following on June 9, 1905:
"MISS MORTON SERIOUSLY ILL- Levi P. Morton's Daughter Operated Upon for APPENDICITIS. In Paris- June 8th-The condition of Miss Lena Morton, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi P. Morton of New York, who was operated upon for appendicitis yesterday, is not improved."
"During the past Winter Miss Morton was a conspicuous figure at the opera and other gatherings of social importance in this city of Paris. In the Spring she accompanied her father to Paris, where she was educated while Mr. Morton was the United States Minister to France."

In her honor, Levi P. Morton built the Morton Memorial Library and Community Center. Few gifts have ever fulfilled their mission so completely as the $50,000 given to built it and the $80,000 with which he endowed to it.
Another memorial gift given in her honor by Levi P. Morton was the money given to build the "Great Organ" of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York, New York. In 1905, the then Governor of NY and his wife donated a sum of $600,000 to cover the costs of the organ($50,000), the choir($450,000), and the altar($100,000).
Lena was interred in the Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck, NY.
She would be joined with her Mother, Anna Livingston Reade Street Morton, her Father, Levi P. Morton and much later her Sisters, Mary and Helen in the Morton Family Plot.
