Grace Bertha Cooter

Grace Cooter, 64, died Thursday night, April 18, 1963 at the St. John's Hospital, Salina. She had been ill the past two years. She was born to Ed and Lena Wrench Roberts on May 23, 1899 at Asherville, Kansas, and attended and graduated from Asherville High School.
She was united in marriage to Carl W. Mort in Iowa in 1923 and to this family were born two children, Betty Jean, who died in infancy and Robert C.
Carl died in 1928 and in 1929, Grace moved to Kansas City, Kansas. There she met John Ben Cooter and they were married in Kansas City in 1930. They returned to Beliot in 1931 to make their home. They had one son, James R.
Soon after their return to Beliot, Grace began her Rooming House and operated it until her death, Ben Cooter preceded her in death, Sept. 6, 1951.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Business and Professional Women's club and served as district director of BPW in 1956 and 1957.
She is survived by her two sons, Bob Mort, Mission, Ks., and James R. Cooter, Manhattan, and one grandson, Benny Cooter, of Manhattan. Her mother and father preceded her in death.
Rev. Sheridan Robbins conducted funeral services at McDonald's Chapel on Monday, Apr. 22, 1963 at 10 a.m. Mrs. Vernon Pohlhammer was soloist with Mrs. Roy Baker, organist.
Floral arrangements were cared for by Mrs. Glen Broadbent, Katherine Kindscher and Aileen Newquist. Casket bearers were Ralph Guard, Alan Houghton, Herb Schaeffer, Arnold Hackett, Laverne Hackett and Glen Broadbent. Burial in Elmwood cemetery with the Order of the Eastern Star conducting graveside services.
Out of town relatives here for the service were Mr. and Mrs. James Cooter and Benny, Manhattan, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mort, Mission, Ks.
