"Wea Tons", Medicine Man, son of Mary Dagenett and Thomas Shields, nephew of Christmas Dagenett.
Ambrose Shields and Vene Ann Watkins were married in Warren County, Indiana, Dec. 26, 1845 according to Indiana marriage records. As a Wea (Miami), one of "The Five Civilized Tribes", Ambrose was allotted land in Kansas where he built a house in 1854. He brought his family out in 1856.
Ambrose married Mary Weaver about 1863. She brought two daughters, Mary and Alice, to the marriage. Mary and Ambrose had three sons, Ernest, Leolin and Ivan.
Ambrose wrote a letter on behalf of my Great Grandfather to Indian Affairs in 1882. They are 2nd cousins. Mary claims she is a widow in 1885 Kansas census.
