Graveside funeral services for Ethel Irene Harraman Meier, 97, of Guthrie will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, with Rev. Denis Hanrahan of St. Mary Catholic Church of Guthrie officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home of Guthrie.Ethel was born Feb. 15, 1911, in Pleasant Valley to Lewis and Lettisha Waggoner Harraman. She died Dec. 18 at her home northeast of Guthrie.Ethel married Joseph Meier at the courthouse in Guthrie on Dec. 11, 1929, with Joseph's sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ernest Balsiger, as attendants. The couple raised their family and farmed and raised cattle west of Coyle, not far from where she was born.She is survived by two daughters, Mary Baker of Stillwater, and Joyce Wehr and husband Wayne of Guthrie; two grandsons, Trey Baker and wife Stana of Guthrie and Johny Green and wife Cindy of Edmond; two granddaughters, Amy Baker Zerr and husband Kenny of Stillwater and Emily Baker Pollard and husband Scott of Missouri City, Texas; one sister Dolly Webber of Stillwater and numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Ethel is preceeded in death by an infant son, beloved husband Joseph, in 1983, her parents, four brothers and four sisters.Pallbearers will be Trey Baker, Johny Green, John "Juno" Goodman, Scott Pollard and Kenny Zerr. Ethel lived on the farm west of Coyle, near her birthplace all her life. She was a kind and hard-working wife and mother and was always loving, tender and kind to all who knew her.She could milk cows of a morning and have a fried chicken country dinner on the table by noon for any amount of farm help, complete with her delicious homemade pies and breads.She especially enjoyed family and friends coming to the farm to ride horses, fish, play softball, jump rope and "snipe hunt." Rocking on the front porch on Sunday evening, visiting with family and friends and making homemade ice cream was a regular. She loved to talk to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren about "the olden days" of walking to school in the snow, picking cotton, cooking on a wood stove and sewing clothes from feed sacks when she was a child.Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday morning until 9:30 a.m.Memorials may be made to the Choice Hospice, 1 NW 64th St., Suite A-1, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
