Lou Craswell Beard, daughter of Herbert Craswell and Margaret Sharp Craswell, spent her early years in MN, MT, and IA, following her father's job with the railroad.

After settling in Sioux City IA, she married John Beard on 4 June 1908. Thus,began her life as the wife of a minister. She and her husband served churches in Sioux City, several in NE, Hoquium WA, and finally 25 years at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian in Portland OR. She and her husband had three sons, John, Robert, and Paul.

In 1948 at the age of 62, she accompanied her husband on horseback, riding the complete Oregon Trail.

She was a sweet soft spoken woman loved by all who knew her.
