Carol Wagner Burgess, age 66, of Fredericktown, Pa., died unexpectedly due to an accident Sunday, August 19, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was born March 9, 1941, in Brownsville, Pa., the daughter of Albert John Wagner and Mary Ethel LeClere Wagner.
Carol graduated from Bethlehem Center High School, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1963 from California State College (now California University of Pennsylvania) in California, Pa., and later acquired a Masters Degree in Education from West Virginia University in Morgantown.
She taught for over 30 years, serving school districts in Burgettstown, Shaler, Mars, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley, Knoch and Beth-Center.
Carol briefly volunteered as receptionist for Results Chiropractic and also Star Screw Company, both in Cranberry Township, Pa.
She was also one of the original staff at the Cranberry Giant Eagle's child care facility called the "Eagle's Nest", where she worked until coming back to Fredericktown to care for her elderly mother.
A member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church from age 12 to 1963 and again since 1998, Carol served as pianist, organist, Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher and was a member and officer of the church's Youth Group.
Here, as well as at the Mars United Methodist Church, she had served several years as Lay Delegate to the Annual Conference at Grove City, Pa.
She was also a member of the Sarah Gray Circle at the Mars Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in both churches.
On December 4, 1999, she married Robert Gary Burgess, who survives.
Also surviving are her Mother, Mary Ethel LeClere Wagner of Fredericktown; one Daughter, Holly Gindlesperger; three Step-Children: Garry Marschall Burgess, Kyle Henry Burgess and Amy Marie Burgess; two Grandsons: Walker Nathaniel Branch and Samuel Lawton Branch; and three Step-Grandchildren: Benjamin Alexander Burgess, Harrison Brent Burgess and Ella Marie Troiani.
She was predeceased by her father, Albert John Wagner.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 22, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, Pa., where Services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at 12 noon with the Rev. Scott Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow in Fredericktown Cemetery.
