Garret F. Nester, 54, of New Eagle, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born September 29, 1952, in Charleroi, a son of Frances Pasquerella Nester of Carroll Township and the late Frank Nester.
For the past 33 years, Mr. Nester had been the music teacher at Donora Elementary Center and previously was band director at Carroll Middle School.
Mr. Nester was a 1970 graduate of Monongahela High School, then, for a year, attended Carnegie Mellon University and Northwestern University, where he studied under Fred Hemke. He went on to graduate with a degree in music education from Alderson Broddus College in Philippi, W.Va.
While attending CMU, he was very proud to have performed saxophone solos at Carnegie Hall in both Pittsburgh and New York City.
He was a member of Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church and was a devout fan of the automotive hobby. In 1994, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 31 years, Lynda Hobaugh Nester; two daughters, Kimberly L. and Shelby G. Nester, both at home; his mother and father-in-law, Howard and Hilda Hobaugh of Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Thomas G. Nester who died as an infant; and a brother, Gregory T. Nester who died in 2000.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela. A burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, in Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Monongahela, with the Rev. George Yatsko officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. A Panikhida service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
