William (Bill) Hugh Lee, 86, of Moon Township, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born May 18, 1920, in Cross Creek Township, a son of Walter Cummins and Susan Burns Lee.
Mr. Lee was a graduate of Hickory High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His graduate studies were at Pennsylvania State University, University of Pittsburgh and Westminster College.
He spent his entire career in education at Moon Area School District, where he taught social studies for nine years and was a counselor and director of guidance for 31 years. He retired in 1983 and was honored with emeritus status by Pennsylvania Association of College Admissions Counselors.
During his counseling career, he was the recipient of a General Electric Career Education Fellowship to Syracuse University. In 1981, he was named West Hills Jaycees Educator of the Year.
Mr. Lee's community and national leadership includes service as past president of Moon Education Association and past member of Pennsylvania State Education Association Executive Council. He was a life member of National Education Association and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Other career organizations he was a member of were Pennsylvania School Counselors Association and Pennsylvania Association of College Admissions Counselors. He was past president of both and the only person to hold both offices.
Mr. Lee belonged to Coraopolis Masonic Lodge 674, Sons of the American Revolution, Sewickley Men's Club, Moon Area Senior Citizens Association and Moon Education Retirees Association. He was a former member of Kiwanis Club of Coraopolis.
He had a special interest in history and was affiliated with Upper Ohio Valley Presbyterian Historical Society, Washington County Historical Society and Moon Township Historical Society.
Mr. Lee was an avid Penn State football fan and had attended a record 28 bowl games with Penn State.
He was a member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, a former member of Cross Creek Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, having served all three as an elder.
Surviving are a nephew, Wilson Anderson Jr. of Prior Lake, Minn.; and two nieces, Susan Kreig of Mt. Pocono and Kathy Anderson of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Deceased are two brothers, Walter C. and Thomas B. Lee; and a sister, Jane Lee Anderson.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of services celebrating his life, Saturday, February 24, in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, with the Revs. Greg Graybill and Roger Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery, Burgettstown. In addition, Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 722 Carnot Road, Moon Township, will hold a celebration of Mr. Lee's life at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 25, in the church with the Revs. Roger Howard and Greg Graybill officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Cross Creek Presbyterian Church, 4 Fayette Street, Burgettstown, PA 15021, and/or Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 722 Carnot Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.
