Cleveland LEADER May 11
On May 9 the body of an unidentified man was seen floating in the (Ohio) canal basin by Captain Harvey of a canal boat. Police were sent for and as soon as they arrived the corpse was removed from the water. A cut was found in the back of the head, which indicated that there had been foul play. The deceased was a man about five feet six or seven, evidently a German and a laboring man. He had dark hair and a mustache, and was dressed in dark clothing. His body was removed to D. W. Duty's undertaking establishment.
- A coroner's inquest was held yesterday over the body of the man found in the canal basin on May 9. His name is James Barry, and he worked for the Atlantic and Great Western railroad. The verdict of the jury was that Barry came to his death by violence, the source of which is undetermined.
