Dexter was the fifth and last child of George and Eliza Huyck Beacraft. He grew up in Burchville and Port Huron MI. Around 1902, the family moved to Bellevue, WA, then to Tacoma.
On December 25, 1911, he married Etta Durkee. They had two sons, one dying at birth, and one daughter.
Dexter worked as a timber scaler in 1910, a shipwright in 1920 and then for Wheeler-Osgood Co. as a tallyman.
He lived to the age of 79 years before succumbing to heart disease.
