He was born 27 Feb 1925 in Thomasboro, Illinois to Alfred and Katherine (Smith) Black. According to military records, David was 69 inches tall and had blue eyes and black hair. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and Rantoul AMVets Post.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Recruiting Station - Chicago on 22 Feb 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a veteran of WWII, but unclear where he served overseas. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on 21 May 1946 from the M.B Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. The U.S. Naval Training Center, Bainbridge served the US Navy for 34 years from its beginning as a recruit training command in 1942. His specialty was a Aviation Machinist Mate and Line Maintenance Mechanic. Later in life he worked for the railroad.
He married Annetta J. Knospe on 29 Dec 1951 in Rantoul, Illinois. David and Annetta had 5 Children (Sheila, Jack, Sharon, Richard, Gary)
David died at the age of 55 at 9:20 P.M. on Thursday, 28 Feb 1980 at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign, Illinois. The funeral was held on Sunday, 2 Mar 1980 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul, Illinois. Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiated the ceremony. He was buried in the vicinity of section 80 (Back Right) in Beckman Cemetery in Thomasboro, Illinois.
