|Death: ||Dec. 23, 1861|
John was a 25 year old Scranton ironworker when he was mustered in there as a Private in the 46th Pa. Infantry, Co. I. He was described as being 5'6", with a fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes.
He was in trouble for insubordination when he murdered, at Darnestown, Maryland, Major Arnold Colt Lewis of his regiment. He was hanged for the crime three months later.
Note spelling and date error on stone. It should also be noted that his stone, while grouped with those of other soldiers along the wall, is set somewhat apart, probably because of the crime he committed.
