Prominent Dell Rapids Citizen Dies June 29

Was Active In All Civic Affairs; Alderman, and Dell Rapids First Fire Chief

Funeral services were held Saturday morning for Henry T. Myers, 73, at St. Mary's Church with Father P.P. Meyer saying the Requiem Mass at 9:30. Mr. Myers had been in fairly good health until recently his condition took a turn for the worse and his death occurred late Wednesday evening at his home.

Mr. Myers was born May 4, 1882 in Carpenter, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Myers, Sr. He attended school and grew to young manhood there. With his parents and family, he came to South Dakota in 1898. From then on he became a farmer until 1912, farming around Dell Rapids.

He was married to Anna Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Anderson, on October 18, 1905. This fall the couple would have celebrated their golden wedding. In 1912 they moved to Dell Rapids where they purchased their home in the northeast part of town where they have lived ever since.

Mr. Myers was employed by Dieson's store for a period of twenty-three years and at Hermanson's Funeral Home, and upon his retirement from active business, spent his time looking after his farming interests in this vicinity and in northern South Dakota.

He was a member of St. Mary's parish and the Woodman lodge. He was very civic mined, as he was a member of the city council for some time, served on the park board for many years, and had the distinction of being Dell Rapids first fire Chief, which post he held for a long period.

Leaving to mourn his passing are is widow, a brother, Greg, three sisters, Mrs. Peter Schmidt, his twin sister, Mrs. Dora Goodale and Mrs. Catherine Fryer, Britton. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Acting as pallbearers were M. Bunkers, Peter Grav, R. Wood, J. Baumberger, Oscar Berg, Wessel Everts, Dell Rapids, Jim Pederson, Presho, S.D.; as honorary pallbearers and nephews Vincent Fryer, Britton, Frank Goodale, Chester, Kenneth and Vernon Anderson, James and Harold Schmidt of Dell Rapids.

Those attending from a distance, beside a host of relatives and friends from Dell Rapids, included Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Jury, Burke, S.D., Jim Pederson, Presho, M.M. Myers, Wahpeton, N.D., Mrs. Arthur Quamme, Dwight, N.D., Mrs. Catherine Fryer, Britton, Mr. and Mrs. John Jendricks, Ed Morney, Swaledale, Iowa, Mrs. William Baldwin and family, Mrs. Alice Myers and Mrs. Lou Farrell all of Sioux Falls.
