CHESNEE - The Rev. Clyde Harmon Atkins, 78, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at 6024 Parris Bridge Road, Chesnee, as the result of an auto accident.

A native of Spartanburg, he was the husband of Esta Binghan Atkins and son of the late John Cleveland Atkins and the late Ruby Ruth Davis Atkins. He was a retired minister.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughter in-law, Roy and Rondall Meadows of Chesnee and Bobby Atkins of the home; three daughters, Betty Jean Bratton, Pauline Chase of Chesnee and Madge Eva Price of Gaffney; a brother, Hollis Atkins of Gaffney; a sister, Pauline Mills of Inman; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-greatgreat grandchildren.

Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens.

A 78-year-old Chesnee man was killed in a traffic accident in Chesnee on Friday.

Rev. Clyde Harmon Atkins died following the 11:55 a.m. accident on Parris Bridge Road in Spartanburg County, 10 miles north of Spartanburg, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Atkins, who was a retired minister, has relatives in Gaffney including a daughter, Madge Eva Price, and a brother, Hollis Atkins.

Atkins was operating a 1988 Plymouth four-door vehicle southbound on Parris Bridge Road when a northbound 1994 Ford Explorer driven by Kathy Overcash of Chesnee crossed the center line and struck Atkins' vehicle head-on, according to the Highway Patrol.

Atkins was not wearing a seat belt. Overcash, who was restrained, was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
