Lucille Marie Meade, 87, of Colesburg, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Edgewood Convalescent Home, following a brief illness. Lucille was born on December 15, 1921, in rural Colesburg, the daughter of Clarence and Irene (Timmons) Hartbeck. She was raised and educated in the area and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1939. Lucille attended Coe College and later, in 1969, graduated from Upper Iowa University. On December 16, 1944, Lucille was united in marriage to Howard Meade in Wyoming, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Together they lived in the Colesburg and Earlville areas. Lucille taught at Earlville, Center Junction and after her marriage twenty-six years at Edgewood-Colesburg Community School.
Lucille served on the Board of the Colesburg Public Library for 19 years. She was a member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Retired Teacher's Association, The Rebecca's, the Colesburg Legion Auxiliary, Colesburg Book Club, Colesburg Garden Club and Colesburg Senior Citizen's. Lucille also was a Cub Scout den mother for many years. She enjoyed her family, her students, gardening, reading and word puzzles.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Lowell) Moser of Colesburg, and Marcia Kehrli of Leawood, Kansas; two sons, David (Lola) Meade and Gary Meade both of Edgewood; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren: Alan Moser (Molly Vitense), Mallory and Martha of Clarence, Angela (Stephen) Rummelhart, Francis and Abigail of Hills, Aaron Moser (Kaley Johnson) of South Padre Island, Texas, Andrew (Lindsay) Moser, Jasmine, Jade, and Aysia of Ames, David (Kim) Meade and Hannah of West Gate, Michael (Sue) Meade, Stephanie, Michele, and Joe of Colesburg, Jim (Killery) Meade, Jacob, Jon, Isaac, and Katie of Strawberry Point, Laura Meade of Cedar Rapids, Adam (Missy) Kehrli and Jackson of Aurora, Colorado, Katherine (Bill) Burke and Samuel of Edgerton, Kansas, Joshua Kehrli of Springfield, Missouri, and Robert Meade of Galesburg, Illinois; three great-great-grandchildren, Micala, Matthew, and Michael Bush; two sisters, Joyce Woeste of Colesburg and Milly (Lawrence) Jensen of New Hampton; one brother, Calvin (Earline) Hartbeck of Manchester; one sister-in-law, Neva Meade of Center Junction; and many nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Meade on February 29, 1976; one son, Carroll Meade; two grandchildren, Dean Meade and Regina Meade; her parents; and one brother, Ivan Hartbeck.
