FRAN WALSH DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Francis J. Walsh, 64, a former La Salle funeral director, of 805 John Goodhue Road, Carlisle, Iowa, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday in the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Des Moines, after a long illness.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Pagani-Mueller Funeral Home, La Salle, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. patrick's Church with the Rev. Michael Mulhern, CM, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. with scripture service at 5 p.m., and a Rosary at 8:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Walsh was born Dec. 9, 1915 in La Salle to Frank T. and Margaret Shea Walsh. He was a graduate of St. Bede Academy and Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago.
He served in the Army in Europe for three years during World War II. Mr. Walsh took over the operation of the Walsh Funeral Home in La Salle in 1937, and operated it until 1963, when it became the Walsh-Mueller Funeral Home. The funeral home had been started by his father in 1903.
Mr. Walsh was a partner in Walsh-Mueller until his retirement in 1970.
He was a member of, and past Grand Knight of the Calvert Council, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Patrick's School Board and the La Salle Grade School Board.
He married Josephine (Jodey) Hybke Sept. 16, 1942 in La Salle. She survives in Carlisle along with four sons, William of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael of Denver, Colo., Thomas of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Patrick of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Mary of Carlisle, Iowa; five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
