Oscar Matlock Floyd
Birth: Apr. 29, 1868
Death: Aug. 27, 1941
Dallas County
Texas, USA

My Great-Grandfather on my Mother's side:

Oscar Matlock Floyd m. Arsana Irene(Morris) Floyd. They had 4 children: Charles Arthur Floyd (deceased age 6) buried here. Arthur Tom Floyd - buried at Laurel Land Cemetery, Dallas, TX. Cora Lee Floyd (Sandling) - buried at Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster, TX. Lannie Floyd (Moore) buried at Kleberg Cemetery, Kleberg, TX. Oscar's obituary can be read on Dallas Historical Society website under Jim Wheat's Dallas County Link - Also the Floyd-Taylor Cemetery is listed as a Pioneer Cemetery. Son of Charles A. & Angeline - buried here. Grandson of George original Peters Colony settler in 1846.
The words I remember my Papa Floyd (Arthur) saying about his Daddy - Oscar - are that he was a mean old cuss. He would bake bread and pies, put beans on to cook and go out and work the fields all day. He worked very hard. He was a strict disciplinarian and this prompted my Papa to run off at age 11 and join the carnival. He went to Tulsa, OK to the 101 Ranch and worked with Wild West Shows as a Carny. Had he not fallen off the creek bank on the Floyd Farm, he might have lived to a ripe old age.

He built the house 3595 Ray Rd.,Dallas,TX in 1904, brought back loads of BoisD'Arc from BoisD'Arc island east of Wilmer and loads of cypress & pine from deep east TX close to Nacogdoches. Roudtrip via wagon/mules took over a week! In his early days-he was a cowboy on the Chisolm/Goodnight Trail-about 1890 claimed a land grant in Greer Cnty TX. 1896 US Supreme Court ruled this area Indian Lands & gave to Oklahoma. Thereafter, Oscar returned to the Floyd Farm in Dallas County. He was known as gentle - UNLESS you riled him up!

DEVELOPERS want to BUILD OVER OUR ANCESTOR's GRAVES (it is "just in a field"- prime location for their warehouse district). Watch the Channell 11 news clip of my Dad's effort's to stand up for "the common man" against BIG DEVELOPERS. Efforts to save the Floyd Homeplace and spare our cemetery further "foot-traffic" and vandalism and ultimate demolition. Ray Road Rebel Historical Value does not matter when it comes to Dallas Southern Sector. No Poltergeists wanted here!

This could be any American Citizen - we must stand up for our rights or lose them. Rebel Wins at Dallas City Hall
