Prominent Rockwood Citizen Passed Away Last Thursday.

Thos. H. Lindsay, one of the best known citizens of this end of Roane county, died at his home in this city last Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock. He had been in poor health for several weeks and his death was not unexpected. "Uncle Tom," as his friends liked to call him, had been a well-known figure about Rockwood for many years. The announcement of his death brought sadness to every citizen of the town.

He was born in 1836 in Ireland, his parents being Scotch-Irish. In 1847 his parents came to this country and settled in New York state and his boyhood days were spent in that
section. When the civil war broke out he joined a
Pennsylvania regiment and served throughout the war as a federal soldier. He served six months in a confederate
prison at Belle Isle and Salisbury. In one battle his whole company, except Mr. Lindsay and one other member, were captured. After the war, Mr. Lindsay came south for his health, locating at Rowena, Ky., where in 1868 he was married to Miss Sarah Leveridge. In 1892 the family came to Roane county and has lived in and around Rockwood since that time. Mr. Lindsay is survived by his aged widow; two brothers, James and Robert, one sister, Mrs. Ella Harbeck, all of whom reside in New York state; three daughters, Mrs. W. W. Smith, Monterey; Mrs. Ella East of Rockwood; Mrs. Alexander Clark, and one son, Dr. John D. Lindsay, Catoosa.

Funeral services were held at ten o'clock Friday, February 18th and the burial was in the Glen Alice cemetery.
