Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Dwane Ahlstrom, 90, of Orem, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999 of causes incident to age. He was born Dec. 7, 1908 in Tropic, Utah, to Frank and Rose Riggs Ahlstrom, the seventh of nine children.
He married Grace Olsen on May 21, 1929, in Farmington, Utah and was later sealed in the Manti Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served willingly in whatever task he was called to do. He was a quiet, reserved man, loved and respected by all who knew him for his kind manner and his example of true, enduring patience.
As a young man, he worked for his father in the stock raising business, and had a great talent for working with horses and other animals in and around the beautiful mountains and desert country of southern Utah, which he loved. He was also a good baseball player, a talented musician, and an efficient truck driver. He later became a fine carpenter, a dedicated gardener, as well as a loving husband and father, and was always anxious to do something to help others in whatever they needed done.
He and Grace moved to Provo in 1940, and after helping build the Geneva Steel Plant, he continued working there until his retirement in 1973. He was a capable and dependable worker, greatly admired by his fellow workers for his strength and exceptional abilities. He always enjoyed being with his family, whether visiting at home, playing with the grandchildren, or camping, hunting and horse back riding in the outdoors. He was proud of his heritage, and nothing brought him more joy than to tell his wonderful stories of the days gone by. For this and many other reasons, and especially for the patient, loving example which he showed to us all, he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Grace of over 70 years, Orem; two daughters, Mignon (Monroe G.) Gallier, Mapleton, and Sherrie (John D.) Hundley, Lindon; eight grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; and one sister, Reva A. Davenport, Orem; He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters, one grandson and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held July 19, 1999, at 2:00 p.m., at the Hillcrest 6th ward chapel, 1035 S. 800 East, Orem. Friends may call Sunday evening, July 18, 1999, at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center Street, from 6-8 pm, or at the ward chapel one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
