CORLIS J. CLEMENT
POWNAL - The funeral of Corlis J. Clement, 66, World War I Veteran and retired farmer, who died Friday night at his home on Middle Pownal Road, was held this afternoon at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home. Rev. Frank W. Grippin, First Methodist Church pastor, officiated. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Clement, the son of John and May LeRay Clement, was born in Searsburg Jan 18, 1896. He had spent his early life in that town. Later he had operated a farm on the Middle Pownal Road from 1935 until his retirement two years ago.
Mr. Clement in World War I had served with Co. K, 1st Vt. Inf. Div., 101st Ammunition Train, Co H, 103rd Inf. His service overseas was from September 1917 to April 1919 and he had seen action in the second Battle of the Marne and the Argonne offensive.
His wife, the former Jane Bishop, died in 1934.
He leaves a brother, John Clement of Searsburg; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Belknap, Mrs. George Briggs, Mrs. Forrest (Bessie) Hager, Mrs. Clara Day of Searsburg and Mrs. Dorothy Morrison of Stephentown, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.
