EDMUND E. BROWN
Edmund Earl Brown, 71, of 217 Maple St., for more than 35 years with the Railway Mail Service and recently employed as a security officer at the Vermont Soldier's Home, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at Putnam Memorial Hospital.
The son of Edmund and Luella (Remington) Brown, he was born in Bennington April 14, 1897. He received his education in the Bennington Schools, was a graduate of Bennington High School and also of Tufts College in Medford, Mass.
Mr. Brown had retired from the Railway Mail Service in 1960. He has served as a special police officer with the Village Police on various occasions and was a member of the Bennington County Sheriffs Association. Through his long association with the railway and to recent years as a law enforcement officer, he was well-known throughout the area.
He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church and belonged to the Fourth Degree Assembly of Bennington Council 307, Knights of Columbus.
Survivors are his wife, the former Helen McGuire of Bennington; one daughter, Mrs. Dana (Frances) Bell of East Hartford, Conn; one grandson, James Kirk of Alexandria, VA; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mildred White of Bennington; one brother, Clarence Brown of Bennington; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday at 9:30 am with a prayer and at 10 in St. Francis de Sales Church where a Requiem High Mass will be offered.
Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm when the family will be in attendance. Recitation of the Rosary will be tonight at 8.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and that contributions in his memory be made to the Heart Fund through the funeral home offices.
All members of Knights of Columbus 307 are requested to meet at the funeral home tonight at 8 to take part in the recitation of the Rosary for Fourth Degree member Mr. Brown.
