Harold E. Arnold
Harold E. Arnold, World War II veteran, died at the Veterans' Hospital in White River Junction Saturday night. He had been a patient there since Feb 14.
His parents were John and Mary (Hart) Arnold and he was born in Bennington June 17, 1914. His education had been received at St. Francis de Sales Academy. A machinist by trade, he had been employed at the Polygraphic Co. while living in Bennington. For one year he was in Webster, Mass., where he was employed at Colonial Greeting Card Co. He had made his home in Arlington and Sunderland since January, where he returned because of frail health.
Enlisting in the armed forces Sept 12, 1942, he saw active duty as a gunner with the Army Air Force serving overseas.
His affliations included the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332; Post 19, American Legion, and he was a past commander of the Military Order of the Cooties, Green Mountain Pup Tent 2, VFW 1332.
Survivors are his wife, the former Mary Gaudette; two sons, Timothy E. Arnold of Sunderland and Everett Arnold of Arlington, the latter serving in the Merchant Marine, stationed at Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. John (Zita) Stark of Bremerton, Wash; a stepdaughter, Miss Patricia Gaudette of Sunderland; also nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday at 8:30 am with a prayer and at 9 in Sacred Heart Church where a Requiem High Mass will be offered. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Chapel with burial to be in this cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday at 8 pm.
