SFC William Edward Boone was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SFC Boone served our country until October 12th, 1970 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 28 years old and was married. William died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. SFC Boone is on panel 07W, line 128 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.
The Hero I Never Met: Uncle William, I regret that never got to meet you in person. You paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom before I was born. I do feel that I know you through the stories and pictures that Grandma Nora and Annie, Deloris (your sisters, my aunts) and Linda (your sister, my mother) shared with our generation. Your family is doing well and you would be very proud of your children and two grandsons. Just know that our family couldn't be prouder for your military service. He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The Air Medal Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, The Army Commendation Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
