Corporal James Lee Bowden was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, CPL Bowden served our country until August 21st, 1968 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. CPL Bowden is on panel 47W, line 015 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
James was the Son of the Late Mrs Evelyn J. Bowden Brodie,701 South Main Street, Louisburg, North Carolina. His birth record lists his name as "Jimmie"
He served with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 5th Infantry Regiment(Mech), 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, The Purple Heart Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal.
