Lloyd Jones, St. Lawrence Native, Dies

Lloyd Jones, 75, a native of St. Lawrence, died March 30 in the Deuel County Hospital at Clear Lake, and funeral services were held Friday, April 2, in the Congregational Church at Clear Lake. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery. On the prior evening, Masonic and Eastern Star services were conducted at the Eng Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones was born at St. Lawrence July 1, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Even Allen Jones. He grew up in that area, and June 2, 1926 he was married to Edith Tranter of Wessington. Following their marriage they farmed near St. Lawrence for four years before moving to Deuel County in 1930. They farmed near Clear Lake until 1968 when he retired and moved to town. For ten years he was employed as a salesman for the Jacques Seed Company, and was with the Soil Conservation for sixyears. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Clear Lake and served in all capacities. He was also prominent in civic activities. He was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges, and was a Past Master and Past Patron of the organizations.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters: Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Ewing of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Palmer (Joyce) Mundahl of Mankato, Minn., Mrs. Russell (Avis) Hardie of Clear Lake, and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Tritz of Lakeville, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are four brothers: Eben of Clear Lake, Joseph of Rapid City, Chester of St. Lawrence, and Wilbur of Miller; four sisters; Mrs. Joy Thompson of Rapid City, Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Hot Springs, Ark., Mrs. Arnold Prestrude of Estelline, and Mrs. Howard Johnson of Watertown.
