Navy Machinist's Mate Fireman Apprentice Davis was stationed on the carrier Kitty Hawk, home-ported at Yokosuka Naval Fleet Activities, Japan. Davis died when he fell overboard in the Arabian Sea. Bryant was a deeply spiritual and quiet man who dreamt of being on the water, away from the poverty-stricken danger of the South Side Chicago streets. He dropped out of Lane Technical High School his senior year to avoid the constant pressures faced each day to join a gang. He later earned his GED before entering the Navy on November 15, 2000, when he felt it was a calling from God and reported the following August to the Kitty Hawk. He wanted to learn; he wanted to be a good engineer. He would always ask, ‘What's next, what do you want me to learn? What do I need to know?' Bryant was a very happy person who always had a smile on his face. He had complete confidence in his future and looked forward to returning home to Chicago, to his mother, sister and fiancée. He read literature, enjoyed football and go-cart racing; yet, his passion was in writing, mostly spiritual content. After Bryant fell overboard on November 7, a two-day search involving a ship, several aircraft and small rigid hull inflatable boats failed to turn up anything. It was not known how he went overboard. Bryant was officially declared deceased on November 10 by the Department of Defense.
