George was the sixth child of William D. Moorman & Elizabeth Granger, natives of England who moved to New York in 1820.

He married Sarah Legalia Osborn on March 31, 1853. He grew up in Rawsonville and moved to Ypsilanti in 1853.

He owned 540 acres of land & conducted a successful grocery business until 1878. He built several of the business blocks of Ypsilanti: in 1857 the Spencer Building; in 1860, two stores on Congress St.; in 1866 the Arcade Block and owned 300 feet of frontage where Hemphill, Batchelder & Co's bank was located.

He had four children:
Mary,
Carrie,
Burton G.,
Nellie.
