Deanie Everett VIRGINIA BEACH - Deanie "Elizabeth" Everett, 87, passed away peacefully into the light of the Holy Spirit during a gentle spring rain on March 23, 2011 with family by her side in Virginia Beach. She was born Deanie Elizabeth Bright Sept. 13, 1923 in Elizabeth City, N.C. She grew up in rural Currituck County during the Great Depression, later living in Elizabeth City and Norfolk where she met who would become her best friend and loving husband, George M. Everett. Together they parented five children. She worked at Dahlgren Naval Proving Ground after his honorable discharge from the navy. They also lived in California before settling in the Kempsville area of Virginia, part of Princess Anne County. She served the United States government as a data processor from 1953 to the late 1970s until her retirement. She enjoyed her job and work friends, working many hours during critical times in U.S. history, most notably during the Cuban Missile Crisis. She loved cooking and spending time with family. Many times in recent years, she would call to let the kids know that she had made beef stew, or her infamous chicken pot pie. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and visits, telling grandchildren and great-grandchildren wonderful stories about her life. And she especially loved giving and receiving hugs. Her many interests also included gardening, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, NASCAR and duckpin bowling. She volunteered with Sentara Bayside Hospital for more than 20 years and traveled extensively. She was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church since the early 1950s. She cherished her Dorcas Sunday school class and the many friendships she developed over the years. Mrs. Everett is survived by four of her children, Onella Hoggard and her husband Bobby, James Everett and his wife Peggy, Bobby Everett, George Everett Jr. and son-in law Gene Biggs. She had eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Everett, and daughter, Catheline Everett Biggs. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, March 28, at Kempsville Baptist Church with a funeral following. Internment will follow and be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. Condolences may be offered online at www.woodlawngroup.com.
