World War II

Technical Sergeant Chaplin was the boom operator aboard U.S. Air Force KC-135A Stratotanker #58-0026 when it crashed on takeoff at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, killing all 12 aboard. Heavy icing conditions on the wings was believed to be the cause of the accident.
