Captain Burt served with the 909th Air
Refueling Squadron, 461st Air Refueling
Wing. He was the pilot of KC-135A
Stratotanker #57-1424.

Following four hours of flight training, wind
rocking caused a wing to dip and strike the
runway during landing at Amarillo Air Force
Base, Texas.
The aircraft crashed and exploded on the
runway, killing the crew of four and a
passenger.

Captain Burt was age 34, the son of
Joseph Wayne and Ruby Marie (Hull) Burt.

The other service members who perished
were:

Capt Max J Katz , 30, Co-pilot
Maj Richard H Doughty , 35, Navigator
TSgt Harry L Alexander , 29, Boom Operator
A2C Stephen M Mulvenna , 19, passenger
