"John Wendell Jackson was only one month old when his father last saw him. After graduating from high school, John Wendell entered the Marine Corps in 1961 at Paris Island, South Carolina, to become a career soldier like his father. He was in Vietnam but two months when he received air wings and air medals for successful missions against the Viet Cong. Cpl. Wendell Jackson was killed 12 May 1967 at the age of 23 when enemy fire struck his C-37 helicopter in the Quang Tie Province, causing the aircraft to crash and burn while on an assault against the Viet Cong positions. The young marine thus gave his life for his country, just as his father had done 23 years earlier."
