He enlisted in Company F on 18 Aug 1863, at Camp Davant. Pension records show he was wounded in the left hand at the Battle of Akin, South Carolina, and was sent to a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, where he was given a furlough. He applied for a pension in 1897 and James
Boykin signed the affidavit for him saying that he was in the same company with James and that they enlisted about August or September 1863 at Isle of Hope. James married Jane (Janie) Dugger and had fifteen children.
