Civil War Veteran
Levi enlisted on Aug. 21, 1861, as a private in Co. F, 19th Iowa Infantry, and was promoted to First Lieutenant on Aug. 21, 1862, and again promoted to Captain, on June 7, 1863. He was in the battles of Prairie Grove and Vicksburg. He was taken prisoner on Sept 29, 1863, near Atchafalaya, La., and sent to the Confederate prison, Camp Ford in Tyler, Texas. Kept ten months as a POW, he was released in July 1864 in a prisoner exchange at the mouth of Red River, and returned to his command at New Orleans. He was then involved in the taking of Spanish Fort in Mobile Bay. He mustered out on 26 Jun 1865.


Married to Mary "Polly" Lee the younger, daughter of David Richard Lee (Find A Grave #66146519) and Mary "Polly" Lee the elder (Find A Grave # 66146687).
