Kate Polk Gillean is the daughter of Judge H.K. Polk and Ella Word Burleson.
Judge Henry Kinsey Polk, was among the old families of eastern Texas, the Polks have had a prominent place from the time when eastern Texas was the battleground between the advancing American colonization and the resisting forces of Mexico. In ante-bellum days they were planters and slave owners and merchants, served with the Confederacy, and gave more than ordinary sacrifices of life and property during the war and during the subsequent half century.
Kate married William Caldwell Gillean. His parents are Geotge C. Gillean and Lelia Belle Andrews.
