Katherine Karlskin 13, was killed Saturday night April 10, 1977 when the car she was riding in went out of control at a high rate of speed and slammed into a cement garage on winding Lake Shore Drive.
Boyne City Police said the vehicle was headed out of Boyne City toward Advance on Lake Shore Drive about 10 p.m. at a high rate of speed when it went out of control and crossed the road and smashed into a cement garage at the Louie Manglos residence at 1491 Lake Shore Drive.

Funeral services for Katherine Karlskin will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stackus Funeral Home. The Rev. Milton Walis Jr., of the Boyne City Presbyterian Church will officiate and interment will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City.

Katherine was born June 24, 1963 in Petoskey. She lived all her life in Northern Michigan and attended school in Boyne Falls until one year ago when she moved with her family to East Jordan and attended middle school there as an eighth grader. She was a member of the East Jordan Middle School girl's basketball team.

Survivors include her mother Mrs. Joan Karlskin of East Jordan; her father James Karlskin of Boyne City; two brothers, David and James II; three sisters, Diane, Gail and Chris all at home in East Jordan; her paternal grandfather, Archie Karlskin of Boyne City and her maternal grandfather Albert Sweet of Tampa, Fla.

*Christine Karlskin 15 from East Jordan the deceasd's sister is listed in serious condition at Little Traverse Hospital. Christine Romback 17, of East Jordan, Jim Gamble, 17 of Madison Heights, and Rick Johns, 17 of Madison Heights were all treated and released at Little Traverse hospital after being injured in the accident.
