JAMES HARVEY PECK
Died at his home near Terre Haute, Henderson County, Ill. March 23 1899. He was born in New York state August 27, 1824 and being at the time of death in his 75th year. Early in life he united with the Baptist church (of which his father, Joel Peck, was a pastor) and has ever been a consistent member. September 16, 1850 he was married at Jay, N.Y. to Helen Johnson, who preceded him to the other world by eight months.
Deceased was a great lover of good books, and was familiar with the works of many of our best authors, but his chief delight was the Bible, which he read through at least once a year and many were the passages he could quote from memory.
Deceased was the father of eleven children, eight of whom, besides three brothers, one sister, survive to mourn his death. The evening before he died he said to his daughter, "Mary, the sun is almost down to me."
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fritz of Terre Haute at his home Saturday, and remains were interred at the Terre Haute cemetery.
