Civil War Confederate Soldier. Alexander Chisholm, then 30-years old, entered Confederate service as a substitute on October 18, 1862. He joined the "Wake Guards" – Company D, 26th Regiment North Carolina Troops and shared the privations of war as a Private. An ailment – chronic diarrhea – overcame the North Carolinian, and it was this common, but all too often deadly disease that ended his life on October 8, 1864 in Richmond, Virginia.
