William Gilman Low, Jr. was born June 24, 1875 in Far Rockaway to William Gillman Low and Lois Robbins Curtis. He grew up in Brooklyn.
He attended the Brooklyn Latin School and the Pomfret School. He graduated from Yale University, Class of 1897. He also graduated from Columbia University Law School, Class of 1900.
Upon graduatng from Columbia, he entered the law office of Parsons, Shepard, & Ogden. Subsequently, he formed the law firm of Dwight & Low. He formerly served as vice president of the Trust Company of America, vice president of William Morris Imbrie & Co., New York Stock Exchange and investment banking firm, and had been a member of the executive committee and a director of the Home Life Insurance Company.
William also had been a director of the Stonega Coal and Coke Company, the Bank of America, and the Taylor Wharton Iron and Steel Company, and president, a director, and a member of the executive committee of the Pan American Debenture Corporation. He also had been president and a director of the Public Utilities Debenture Corporation.
Long active in the Young Men's Christian Association, William was a member of the executive committee at its War Work Council at the time of the First World War. During the conflict, he was liasion official between the Army General Staff Military Intelligence Division and the Y.M.C.A War Work Council and was associated with the council's relationship with Naval Intelligence. He had been an Army Reserve Captain.
He was a member of the Union, Tuxedo, and Church Clubs, The Pilgrims, St. Nicholas Society, Sons of the Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, and the Down Town Association. He lived in the Hotel Ambassador and the Low family home in Bristol, Rhode Island.
After a brief illness, William suffered a stroke and passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 1945 at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, Maine.
Following a Funeral Service in the Church of the Heavenly Rest located at Fifth Avenue and 90th Street in Manhattan, William was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Kisco, Westchester County.
